PARKS

Housing developments for African Americans had less green spaces built-in. Due to less foliage, these areas did not have natural ways to keep cool. The effects of these decisions are still felt today, with historically POC neighborhoods having surface temperatures up to 44 degrees hotter than historically white neighborhoods because trees and parks cannot be planted or installed due to the need for housing in those areas.
